Organisor: CA23128 – Connecting Landscape Architecture Archives to enhance European landscape practice, research, and education (ConnectLAA),
During the first general meeting of CA23128 – Connecting Landscape Architecture Archives to enhance European landscape practice, research, and education (ConnectLAA), Anthony Cassar, Head of the Technology and Experience Development Unit – TED at Heritage Malta, presented how the ENIGMA Project is leveraging landscape architecture archives in conjunction with satellite data to detect and alert authorities about potential looting activities that may contribute to the illegal trade of heritage objects.
This initiative forms a key work package within the Enigma Project, demonstrating its interdisciplinary approach to heritage protection.
The presentation also highlighted how ENIGMA is being disseminated alongside other EU-funded projects, fostering collaborative knowledge-sharing and cross-sector innovation. By engaging with ConnectLAA, ENIGMA underscores the potential of landscape heritage archives as tools for cultural heritage monitoring and protection, linking them with advanced digital and remote sensing technologies.
This engagement reinforces the broader impact of EU-funded projects in enhancing heritage management strategies, preventing illicit trafficking, and promoting the sustainable use of historical landscapes across Europe.
