Empowering Cultural Heritage Protection

The ENIGMA project (Endorsing Safeguarding, Protection, and Provenance Management of Cultural Heritage) focuses on using cutting-edge digital tools to identify, safeguard, and trace the provenance of cultural artefacts while monitoring endangered heritage sites. ENIGMA has launched a series of workshops aimed at empowering key stakeholders in the fight against cultural goods trafficking and heritage site disruptions.

ENIGMA represents a significant step forward in fighting illicit trafficking and ensuring the resilience of cultural heritage across Europe and beyond. Participants got firsthand insights into innovative tools and provided valuable feedback to refine their development. The workshops were designed to gather critical feedback from stakeholders to fine-tune ENIGMA‘s digital solutions and ensure they meet the needs of cultural heritage professionals.

The first workshop, held on the 9th of January 2025 successfully gathered Law Enforcement Authorities (LEA) to explore ENIGMA’s pioneering tools, including novel artefact identification systems, 3D reconstructions, and satellite monitoring solutions. Read more details in the Brief section.

The second workshop was addressed to Archaeologists and had a hybrid format online and in person on the 5th of February 2025. Archaeologists engaged in hands-on sessions showcasing tools to fight cultural goods trafficking and monitor heritage site risks. The event encouraged dialogue for better tool customization. Read more details in the Brief section.

The third workshop took place on the 13th of February 2025 addressed to Museum Curators. Museum curators got insights into ENIGMA’s advanced tools for safeguarding and tracing cultural artefacts, such as provenance research and scenario-building engines. The workshop invited feedback to enhance these solutions for use. Read more details in the Brief section.

ENIGMA will organize further workshops and training sessions throughout the year fostering collaboration and innovation among archaeologists, museum curators and Law Enforcement Agencies.
